The 90th anniversary of the Holodomor, the man-made famine in Ukraine caused by the Soviet regime in 1932-33, is approaching. The Nizio Design International studio has been co-developing a project important for Ukraine’s identity since 2018, the National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide in Kyiv, where we are working on the building and permanent core exhibition.
Remembering the Holodomor has become extremely important to us, not only because of our personal involvement, but also because of the current international situation and Russian aggression in Ukraine. Recalling the tragedy that happened 90 years ago is important in light of the crimes committed by the Russian military.
Taking advantage of the invitation from the National Heritage Institute to cooperate with the European Heritage Days, we decided to remind Polish society of the importance of remembering the Holodomor. European Heritage Days is an event organized for the 30th time from a joint initiative of the Council of Europe and the European Union. The Polish edition of the Days is held under the national patronage of the President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda under the slogan “Connected by Heritage”.
As part of this pan-European project, the Nizio Foundation, in cooperation with the Nizio Design International studio and the Holodomor Museum Foundation, plans to hold a debate with the participation of Polish and Ukrainian artists, activists and cultural scholars, “The Holodomor in Ukraine. Art in the Face of Genocide”, which will be held on September 17, 2022, at 6.00 pm, at the Nizio Gallery in Warsaw.
The discussion will be participated by i.a. Lia Dostlieva, Mirosław Nizio (Nizio Foundation), and Witold Szabłowski (moderator), Ivan Vasyunyk (Holodomor Museum Foundation) and Oksana Zabuzhko.
The debate will be accompanied by an exhibition – a presentation of the design of the National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide in Kyiv (September 15 – October 15, 2022), allowing to look at specific artistic work dedicated to the Holodomor, realized with the participation of Polish artists.
