MASTER’S MATTER | CERAMICS

In the third series of events held as a part of the MASTER’S MATTER program, in collaboration with artists and experts we discovered for the audience the matter of ceramics. In accordance with the program’s assumptions, the matter was taken up by art historians, critics, antiquarians, collectors, artists and designers of applied forms.

Fire renders the soft and malleable clay brittle but strong. The master’s hands give it an artistic form. This series provides the audience with the opportunity to gain a deep knowledge of Stanisław Brach’s working methodology. Numerous different ceramic techniques, various types of firing, the scale, the flourish and the variety of forms are the scopes which Professor Brach touches upon in his didactic practice when teaching students of the Ceramics Studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.

In our explorations of ceramics we reached a private studio where Marika Nowak and Weronika Surma follow their passions and sensitivity. We learned about the artists’ inspirations, ideas and their output.

We discussed the value of ceramics, its use in sculpture and architecture as well as its artistic and functional values with Cezary Lisowski from DESA Unicum Auction House and Kaja Muszyńska from the National Museum in Warsaw.
